World Health Day: Birth of WHO

The WHO has its origin in April, 1945, during the conference held at San Francisco to set up the United Nations. The constitution was drawn up at an international health conference of 51 nations in New York in 1946. At last the constitution came into force on 7th April, 1948 which is celebrated every year as “World Health Day”.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized, nonpolitical, health agency of United Nations. its head quarter is situated at Geneva. At present WHO has a total 194 member states. The current objective of WHO is the attainment by all people of the world a level of health that will permit them to lead a socially and economically productive life.
